Do It for the Love....

About a year ago, I got completely burned out on photography. I just didn’t love it in any more. I didn’t want to shoot, I didn’t want to edit, and I didn’t want to leave my kids on the weekends. I was running like crazy, spending hours at the computer editing, and it felt like I didn’t have time to be the mom I wanted to be.

So I stopped shooting except for close friends. Now almost a year later - after a long break, I’ve slowly been finding my way back to the camera. Months ago, a local photographer asked me to take some shots of her and her family. She’s amazing, and I wanted her to return the favor (haha) so I said yes. A couple of weeks ago the rain finally stopped and we made it happen. She took me to one of her favorite locations and I was nervous! I was a bit out of practice and here I was shooting for one of the best photographers in town. Our styles are a bit different, she’s more classic and my work has a bit more of a ‘lifestyle’ vibe - so I was especially nervous about getting her family in poses that she would end up loving in the end.

She made me feel comfortable and said something like “hey, I asked you to do this because I love your work.” So I made up my mind to be myself and just do the best job I could and we went out and had a great time! It made me realize that I actually miss working for clients (like her) who make the work easy and fun. We had a great time. Since then I’ve booked a few more shoots and I decided to start taking photos again, with some limits on the number of shoots I’ll book in each week. I think with some careful attention to how much I take on I’ll be able to make this work. And I’m excited to be back. I love photography and I love capturing the love in a couple, a family or a group of friends. I’ve just got to learn to keep in reasonable. We got this! It’s good to be back….
